Fishing and Other Misadventures

ASIN: B00EZHYET2

Sometimes funny, sometimes serious, this is a romp through life as seen through the eyes of a fisherman and traveler from childhood to retirement. Most of it is true, if you can trust the word a fisherman. Partly because it was and is my family’s penchant, and partly because of my job, I have traveled a lot. I’ve been to all but two states in this wonderful country, and I’ve managed to fish, hike or hunt in most of them. It’s been quite a journey, and one that I hope continues. So, join me, won’t you? Who knows? The fish might be biting!

"5.0 out of 5 stars. This book made me feel pleasantly outdoors. I picked Fishing and Other Misadventures mainly because I read Stoner's novels and loved them.

Not a fan of biographical non-fiction, I didn't know what to expect this time, but I've been in for a lovely surprise. It was either the delightful, friendly, light style, or the stories themselves told in each chapter, but this book made a wonderful read for me. I kept swallowing it chapter after chapter, connecting to the author in all stages of his life, from the cute serious boy up to the usual boys' mischief, through the high-school youth crazy on fishing and hunting, all the way to the young man and then the grown up person attempting to combine his passion for outdoors with the usual demands of the modern life. His later parenting and marriage life challenges has me smiling all the way, from chapter to chapter, nodding vigorously. Oh yes, we all 've been there. It was so easy to connect with every character involved.

This book is full of amusing, delightfully light humor. It has me smiling most of the time, and it also made me want to try my luck with some fishing.
I highly recommend this read :-)"

Prey For Survival

ISBN 0923568034 (ISBN13: 9780923568030) and ASIN: B00GKQATOA

Prey for Survival by S. Bradley Stoner is no tale for the faint of heart. The wild, beautiful, brutal wilderness of the Canadian Rockies is the setting for this story of life that is both wonderful and dangerous - and where extreme brutality exists side by side with exquisite beauty.

"What a place this book recreates! It made me feel right there, in the tranquility of the woods, among the snow-covered ridges and the dense timber, on the lone clearings and glades. The wonder of those woods and the danger, it's all there, presented in the enjoyable way of a beautiful story line, through most unexpected points of view, sometimes." Zoe Saadia

The Blackwitch Legacy

ASIN: B00GK9L9E6

Set against the vast lands and incomparable beauty of the Canadian Rockies, dominated by a towering black ridge, The Blackwitch Legacy brews a tale of conflict and triumph for both man and beast, where treasures are wrested from the cold breast of the Blackwitch and lost for a half century, only to reemerge and change lives forever. .Here beauty and savagery, honor and deceit, kindness and greed weave their magic, mirroring the lives of men and women in an untamed environment. (This is a sequel to Prey for Survival and continues the adventures of Jedidiah Smith Marsh).

"The Blackwitch Legacy" is one of these books that I know I will be rereading several times. The story itself, the history behind it, the spellbinding descriptions, all these and more caught me too thoroughly, providing a great story line, while enriching me greatly from all aspects, from history to philosophy, to the mysteries of human behavior and reaction to all sort of situation, to just wonderfully vivid descriptions of places I desperately want to visit now." The Square Peg Book

ASIN: B01HAIIJ3Y

Originally conceived as a newspaper column for a local paper in Montana, The Square Peg found new life as a blog series nearly a quarter of a century later.. While the editors of the paper did not share my enthusiasm, not to mention my sense of humor, the electronic wonder box netted me an audience. So the columns I wrote between 1981 and 1983 that never saw the light of day grew into something bigger. There’s something to be said for thumbing one’s nose at editors. The Square Peg takes a wacky look at life, especially life in Texas suburbia. Join me, Bingo Bob, Duncan Donutz, Col. Duffer, Patti Peeksalot, Paula Pettingzoo, and all the other zany characters in Mr. Codger's neighborhood. Oh, and don't forget to smile, laugh, and generally improve your outlook on life... or you might find yourself in my next book. Life is a short trip, you might as well have fun and enjoy it!

Do not drink. Do not eat powdery or crumbly things while reading this book. You are forewarned. …Because you will wind up inhaling something down the wrong pipe as you gasp in a fit of hysteria. Now, not all the episodes in this droll tome will have you grasping your sides, but a fair share of them will. That’s sure. The rest? You’ll nod sagely, recognizing, dare I say, yourself, your in-laws, your neighbors and friends, and, yes, even your sworn enemies.

    S. Bradley Stoner nails suburban life to the wall, then proceeds to expose all its undersides in hilarious and, sometimes, uncomfortably candid detail.  From the steamed green lady to the gab-gad-about gossip, from the dig-himself-into-the-doghouse dufus to the know-it-all ne’er-do-well, you’ll recognize them all, though the faces you see in your mind’s eye won’t match the faces your neighbor sees when he reads the same lines. But your wife will nod wisely as she quirks a small smile your way when you read her some choice, juicy passage, you seeing yourself in the protagonist’s shoes whilst she’s seeing you . . . never mind.

I give The Square Peg Book a four-star . . . because there are some minor editing issues. S. Bradley Stoner’s a darned fine writer, but, yes, like all of us, he misses some stuff when he knows better.  Still, pound for pound, I found no more faults in this work than I find in something put out by HarperCollins, though I know, anymore, that’s not saying much.
