S. Bradley Stoner
Fun Facts
Real name. Steve McCarter... I write factual material under my real name and fiction under S. Bradley Stoner. It just keeps the two separated both for the readers and in my head. I’m not schizophrenic... honest!
Previous career. Environmental consultant - more than 35 years helping keep our planet clean and clients in compliance. I still consult occasionally. Some things are hard to let go.
Astrological sign. Taurus, April 20, for those who are into such things. I’m not... stubbornly so.
Hair color. Well, it used to be light brown... copper in sunlight. Where did that go? Now it’s more gray than brown.
Favorite season. I like them all. Fall used to be my favorite, I love the fall colors, having lived over 40 years in Colorado and Montana, but the warmth of Texas suits me better now... and I’ve even acclimated to the summers. Those would have killed me when I was young.
Favorite Food. Yes. So many choices... so little time.
Favorite color. Blue... red... no blue... maybe red...
Favorite TV show. I don’t watch a lot of TV and usually it has a factual focus, although I admit to being an NCIS and Big Bang Theory addict. Is there a cure for that?
Family pets. I used to have Belgian Shepherds and crosses and a Seal Point Siamese cat before I got married. I had a Springer Spaniel for awhile, until work and kid’s allergies made it impractical and we had to find him a good home. Now we settle for the geckos, hummingbirds, rabbits, and other birds that frequent our yard. Oh, and the occasional possum and the local big cat that pops in once in a while (we’ve seen both mountain lion and bobcat). This year a family of raccoons joined our outdoor family. They even set up housekeeping in our grill one night.
Number of kids. 2 boys, both adults now. Our oldest works at NASA Johnson Space Center and our youngest is working towards being a film director.
Married? Yes! More than 25 years to the love of my life, Cherei. Besides being the mother of my children, she is my favorite traveling companion and muse, but not just for me. If you read James Rollins, you’ll find her mentioned in the acknowledgements of several of his books.
Favorite way to spend a day. Traveling and discovering new places... or fishing... or tinkering in the shop. So many things, so little time!
Favorite Sports Teams. Football: the Denver Broncos. Basketball: I’m not a big follower, but if you don’t say the Spurs, they kick you out of San Antonio!
Biggest vice. Hmmm... that’s a tough one, but if I had to name one, it would be buying tools. If I’m not writing, traveling or fishing, there’s nothing I like better than fixing things or making something new.
Family time. As often as possible. It’s one of the perks of being semi-retired.
Exercise. That was never an issue in my younger years... climbing, hiking, hunting, fishing, horseback riding, and skiing kept me in pretty good shape into my 40s. Now... walking and the weight bench help when I don’t find reasons to avoid them.
